Chief Cataract and Refractive Surgeon

Dr. Dinesh Sharma completed his M.B.B.S. in 1978 and M.S. in 1981 from the Government Medical College, Amritsar. He worked with the Punjab Medical Services for 5 years and later migrated to Dehradun where he established Amritsar Eye Clinic in 1987. He is an accredited cataract surgeon. Operating cataracts with lens implants since 1983, he is one of the pioneers in this field. Till date, Dr. Dinesh Sharma has performed more than 45000 cataract extractions. Under his leadership, refractive surgeries are being successfully performed at A.E.C. since 1999. Associated with many charitable institutions throughout his career, he has operated thousands of patients free of cost even at faraway places like Varanasi.

He has presented a number a research papers in Europe and Southeast Asia on Micro-Incision Cataract Surgery (MICS) and refractive procedures. Dr. Dinesh Sharma is an accredited surgeon for blade-free femtosecond laser cataract surgery, amongst a handful of those in the country. With years of experience in so many super-specialities of ophthalmology, Dr. Dinesh Sharma handles a large variety of cases not only in the out-patient department but also in the operation theatre.

Corneal Specialist, Cataract & Refractive Surgeon

Dr. Devesh Sharma completed his M.B.B.S. from Lala Rajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut in 2009, and M.S. in Ophthalmology in 2012 from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum. Subsequently, he did a fellowship in Cornea & Anterior Segment from Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, New Delhi in 2014.

Dr. Devesh joined Amritsar Eye Clinic in 2014. He is trained in performing routine and advanced corneal transplant procedures. His other key areas of interest are keratoconus, dry eye and laser refractive surgery. Dr. Devesh regularly performs cataract surgeries and LASIK at the hospital as well.

He has a number of publications in various journals. Besides this, he takes keen interest in the public outreach and community work of the hospital.

Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon

Dr Deepesh Arora completed his post-graduation (M.S.) in Ophthalmology from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal in 1996. Subsequently, he proceeded to do a fellowship in Vitreo-Retina from Sydney Eye Hospital, Australia, after receiving initial training in Diabetic Retinopathy and other retinal disorders.

He has years of experience in handling a wide variety of retinal diseases, after being a part of busy retina practices in places like Mumbai and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Besides being an experienced surgeon, he handles cases of Uveitis and Retinopathy of Prematurity.

Dr Arora is an excellent academician and has numerous publications at the international level.

Oculoplasty, Orbit & Ocular Oncology Specialist

After completing his post-graduation in Ophthalmology from Shri Ganapati Netralaya, Jalna, Maharashtra, Dr Vishal Sharma proceeded to complete a fellowship in Oculoplasty & Orbit from the same institute. He has been trained in Ocular Plastics, Oncology & Aesthetics under the world-renowned Dr. Santosh Honavar.

Dr. Vishal Sharma is associated with Amritsar Eye Clinic since 2016, as a Consultant in Oculoplasty. His key areas of interest are Retinoblastoma & Ocular Oncology, Radiation therapy and Orbit. He has international exposure in the management of Ocular cancers, at the New York eye cancer centre. With numerous publications and presentations at the national and international level, Dr. Sharma is an expert in his field.

Dr. Himanshu Arora (M.B.B.S., D.O., D.N.B.)

Glaucoma Specialist, Cataract & Anterior Segment Surgeon

Professionally Born in 2002, Dr. Himanshu graduated from Govt. Stanley Medical College, Chennai. Opting for a career in the speciality of Ophthalmology, he began his journey by availing the ‘Diploma in Ophthalmology’ from the oldest eye hospital in India and 2nd in the world (Est. 1819) – The Regional institute of Ophthalmology, Madras during 2010-2012.

He served the community, the needy and the poor at District Headquarters Hospital, Kumbakonam as a Civil Assistant Surgeon after completing his masters.
He continued his educational accomplishments by obtaining ‘The Diplomat of National Board’, from the pioneers of charitable eye service, ‘Joseph Eye Hospital’, Trichy.

He enhanced his surgical skills further by doing an extensive ‘Anterior Segment Fellowship’ at the world reputed Biratnagar & Sagarmatha Chaudhary Eye Hospital, Lahan. Trained under the expert guidance of the first phacoemulsification surgeon of Nepal, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Dr. Himanshu has performed more than 8000 independent surgeries across the wide sub-specialities of anterior segment of the eye. He has extensive experience in the field of glaucoma – managing the patients both medically and surgically.

Dr. Himanshu has independently & successfully operated patients at various charitable camps all through these years. His basic humane qualities of providing sincere, honest, confident & dedicated care to the patients are an asset to him and this noble profession. Dr. Nishtha Singh (M.B.B.S., M.S)

Dr. Nishtha Singh graduated from MGM Govt Medical College, Indore in 2011 and pursued her Masters in Ophthalmology (M.S) from GRMC Govt Hospital, Gwalior (2014). She holds a double fellowship in IOL & Microsurgery and Glaucoma as well from the revered Dr. Shroff Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH), New Delhi.

She is currently working with the Glaucoma and Anterior segment Department at Amritsar Eye Clinic after imparting her services as a consultant at SCEH. She is a proficient cataract surgeon and has a vast experience in managing glaucoma patients both medically and surgically. She is abreast with the latest developments like glaucoma drainage devices and other shunt procedures .

Dr Nishtha has a keen interest in research and academics and has many publications in various national and international journals .She is also a co-author for dedicated chapters in various glaucoma books.

She has had the opportunity to work in the peripheral rural areas of UP and Rajasthan which has propelled her to believe that in a vast country like ours, every sector of the population should be made aware of the avoidable causes of blindness and given the best possible eyecare.

Dr. N. S. Jangpangi (M.B.B.S., M.S)

Consultant and Comprehensive Ophthalmologist

Dr. N. S. Jangpangi completed his MBBS in 1979 & M.S. in 1982, both from S. N. Medical College Agra. After that he joined medical health services Uttar Pradesh Govt. He has worked with Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Government services for about thirty three years. He is a consultant and comprehensive ophthalmologist. He has served in various government hospitals /Institutions, given specialized services & community services in ophthalmology, as Eye surgeon District hospital Gopeshwar, Eye Surgeon/Sr. Eye surgeon District Hospital Almora, Sr. Eye surgeon base hospital Haldwani and Sr. eye Surgeon / Sr. Consultant Doon Hospital, Dehradun. He has also served as state programme officer under NPCB (National Programme for Control of blindness) for about two years.

He has also done various short fellowships & training in advances in ophthalmology from various prestigious institutions from Govt. & non Govt. sectors. He is currently working as comprehensive Ophthalmologist & also in community ophthalmology at Amritsar Eye clinic E.C. Road, Dehradun.

Medical Specialist

Dr. Rajiv Kakkar did his ‘Licentiate in Medicine and Surgery’ in 1984 from Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Madrid. He completed his ‘Doctor in Medicine’ in 1987 from Spain itself. He is associated with Amritsar Eye Clinic since 1995. As a physician, he tackles all emergencies that may arise at the centre, and is also responsible for medical check-up of patients selected for surgery.

He is an expert in ophthalmic imaging and contributes significantly to Fundus photography, Angiography and Optical Coherence Tomography. Dr. Rajiv Kakkar is also involved in data selection and analysis in Refractive surgery. He has contributed to a number of scientific and research papers presented in regional conferences and international symposia.
