Amritsar Eye Clinic marked WORLD GLAUCOMA DAY by conducting a free camp for glaucoma patients .March 12,2010 was the third WORLD GLAUCOMA DAY, a joint global initiative of the World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association. On this day the Clinic offered free testing, advice and support for glaucoma patients.
The patients were counselled for glaucoma, antiglaucoma medications and lifestyle changes that can lead to a normal and healthy life. Display of posters, distribution of brochures and imparting information about glaucoma was a part of creating awareness amongst patients and other people.
A total of 4.5 million of the world population suffers from Glaucoma. It is advised that persons above 40 years of age, having marked astigmatism, has a family history of glaucoma, are on long term steroids and who have high blood pressure, diabetes should at least have an annual eye check up.
